Hypnosis is simply a state of mind into which we all enter a number of times
a day, e.g. the moment we wake in the morning. In therapy we use this state
to gain access to the subconscious mind where all our memories are stored. It
can feel like being in a daydream which most people find quite relaxing.
I don't think I can he hypnotised.
If you want to be hypnotised and allow your therapist to help you, there
is nothing to prevent you from achieving the hypnotic state.
Shall I he aware of what is happening?
Yes, the predominant feeling of most people is that they feel quite ordinary
and may experience a heightened sense of awareness.
So am I asleep then?
No, you are extremely relaxed. This is why the technique is called 'Conscious
Hypnosis.
Is there any cause for concern?
Non whatsoever. Hypnosis has been used safely for thousands of years.
How many visits will I need?
Approximately 4 - 6.
Could I he influenced against
my will or nature?
No, as in the waking state, clients can never be made to do anything they
would normally find socially or morally unacceptable.
You'll probably think my problem
is silly.....
No problem is too large or small. The insight gained by hypnotherapy improves
the quality of life of the individual, no matter what their particular problem
may be.
