Hypnotherapy In Childbirth

HYPNOTHERAPY IN CHILDBIRTH

Our bodies can produce their own chemicals to block pain. These endorphins and enkephalins, which share the same chemical properties as morphine. Using hypnosis, we are able to tap into this particular part of our brain and nervous system.

By helping you to relax and convincing you that you can take control and that childbirth is a completely natural process, we are half way there in establishing a state of mind where you know that pregnancy and child birth can be a trouble-free event - indeed a joyous occasion, as it should be.

You will need approximately four sessions of hypnotherapy, where first of all relaxation techniques are taught, i.e. emphasis on relaxation of the mind, where self-hypnosis is taught, so that you are completely independent and self reliant and where actual anaesthesia is taught.

My job as a Hypnotherapist is to help you have a relaxed and positive attitude towards childbirth. This will be done at your first session where I will also give you your own personally recorded audio tape, which you will play everyday. This tape will take you into hypnosis, and will feed positive suggestions to you. This will prepare your sub-conscious mind for the more dynamic work that is to follow. During your sessions you will learn self- hypnosis and will be tested for anaesthesia, to prove to yourself that you can take control.

Research into obstetrics over the years has shown that in a large majority of women using hypnosis, there has been much less need for forceps delivery, much less need for episiotomy, and that any necessary repair work can be done without chemical anaesthetics. After the birth you have the advantage that you are wide awake, and have more energy, and are well prepared to enjoy the delights of your new-born baby.
